Welcome to the church

There’s a story behind the name of this blog, but it’s kind of an inside joke between me and my dad.  Suffice to say it involved a lazy Sunday afternoon, the two of us in front of the boob tube and a show about snake handlers in the Appalachians.  My mother took my two sisters and me to church when we were kids – Southern Baptist, but the only things that stuck were the guilt and hellfire and I decided just yesterday to leave those behind, even though I realized I could’ve ended up with the rattlers!  Not being one to give up easily, I decided to create my own church because I actually think church is good for a lot of things.  It’s a place to go and worship and I need a place like that.  So I will come here to worship those things I value and hold dear.  They are, in no particular order of importance except the first one - nature, tolerance, lovingkindess, good food, family and friends, home as sanctuary, health, good work and the more than occasional American Spirit Menthol.  I hope you enjoy your visits to the Big Sky Church, which of course means that I live somewhere in Montana and am constantly in search of bear sign.
